Alsace, Alps
& Burgundy - Holiday Itinerary
DAY 1:
UK to Paris We travel to Dover for the ferry crossing to Calais
and on to our overnight hotel in Paris.
DAY 6:
Annecy to Dijon This morning there is an optional scenic drive
around Lake Annecy. Later we begin our
northwards journey to explore the gentle rolling
countryside of Burgundy, a region which
considers itself to be the ‘Heart of France’ due
to its world famous wines, excellent cuisine and
magnificent architecture. Our final destination is
historic Dijon, renowned for mustard of the
same name, where we stay two nights at the
Holiday Inn Garden Court (3*). (B,D)
DAY 2: Paris to Le Hohwald We head to Alsace, one of France’s most scenic
regions, with a timeless beauty that cannot fail to
impress. We enjoy a visit to Strasbourg, proud
home to the European Parliament and the
Council of Europe, as well as being a World
Heritage site. Explore the historic Old Town, with
its narrow streets, famous pink cathedral with the
highest cathedral tower in France; Gutenburg
Square and the quaint timber-framed houses of
‘Petite France’. We then continue to the Grand
Hotel (3*) in the small village of Le Hohwald
where we spend the next two nights. (B,D)
DAY 7: Dijon This morning there is an
optional excursion to the wine town of Beaune with its narrow
cobbled streets and pretty squares which boasts medieval houses
and well-preserved ramparts. We have included an afternoon
trip exploring scenic Burgundy with a visit to a local vineyard
and tasting. (B,D)
DAY 3: Le Hohwald Today we step back in time as we travel through
picture-postcard villages lined with half-timbered
houses visiting Gertwiller and Ribeauvillé. Along
the famous ‘Route des Vins’ beautiful countryside
is punctuated with carefully nurtured vineyards
producing one of the region’s most famous
exports, a fine fruity wine. We tour a local wine
cellar at Zellenberg and enjoy an included
tasting. (B,D)
DAY 8: Dijon to Paris We return to Paris with the opportunity to have
dinner in the ‘City of Lights’ and an optional
guided city tour in order to enjoy some of the
endless list of sights from the glamorous
Champs Elysées to the spectacular Eiffel Tower.
Finally we head to our overnight hotel in Paris.
(B)
DAY 4: Le Hohwald to Annecy Leaving Alsace we head
southwards via Switzerland stopping in Geneva. This is the
Swiss centre of banking and watchmaking with its
many elegant shops. The lake is famous for the
water jet which can reach up to 150 metres in
height. The Comfort Hotel Mandallaz (3*)
provides our base for the next two nights in
Annecy, one of the prettiest towns in France.
(B,D)
DAY 9: Paris to UK From Calais to Dover and
then home. (B)
DAY 5: Annecy Few could deny that the French Alps offers
sights and scenery quite unmatched anywhere
else in Europe. Majestic snow-capped
mountains soar high above beautiful villages
and picturesque towns; green, wooded slopes
glide gently into the clear blue waters of the
mountain lakes, and the air is pure, fresh and
invigorating. This morning on our included
‘Alpine Beauty’ excursion you will visit the
famous resort of Chamonix, at the foot of Mont
Blanc and home of the Mer de Glace railway.
Spend an afternoon at leisure in Annecy where
the cobbled streets are lined with shops and
bars whilst pretty canals wind their way down
through the old town to the shores of the lake
with clear blue water. (B,D)
