war cemetaries. You'll learn why battles were fought at particular
locations, your guide will help you to interpret the landscape
and look for signs of the battle evident today. You'll hear
the countless stories of personal bravery and sacrifice, not
just on the battlefield but also the acts of ordinary people
in extraorinary times.

us for the 90th anniversary of the Armistice – the end of
the First World War – as we commemorate the final battles
of 1918 in Flanders and attend the moving remembrance ceremonies
at Ypres.
Last
Days of World War I Tour Itinerary
DAY 1: To northern
France or Belgium for a three-night stay.
DAY 2: The Final Battles
of the Great Ward (included) We look
at the final battles of the Great War in Flanders, visiting
Bailleul and Kemmel where the Germans broke through in April
1918, and seeing the Ploegsteert Memorial where the dead
are commemorated. In the afternoon we look at the forgotten
‘Fourth Battle of Ypres’ following the advance along the
Menin Road, and visiting the Newfoundland Memorial at Courtrai.
We end the day at the American ‘In Flanders Fields’ cemetery,
close to one of their final actions of WW1, before returning
to Ypres for the Last Post. B
DAY 3: Ypres and the Armistice Day Ceremonies
(included) We attend ceremonies in Ypres for
11th November, with a special
commemoration at the Menin Gate at
11.00am and another in the evening at
8.00pm – including the veteran’s parade
from the main square in the morning.
Our head WW1 Guide, Paul Reed, may
also adapt today’s itinerary closer to the
departure if any special exhibitions or
events are scheduled to take place.
However, the main focus of the day will
be to attend the Last Post ceremonies in
Ypres.
