Cruise - Holiday Itinerary
DAY 1: UK to Passua Fly to
Munich and transfer to Passau, where you will board the sumptuous
MV Mozart and settle into your cabin for the seven-night cruise.
(D)
DAY 5: Budapest Enjoy
a full day at leisure in Budapest. An optional morning city
tour will introduce you to the main sights. See St. Matthias
Church, the Fisherman’s Bastion and Gellert Hill with
its citadel and Liberation monument in the old city. In Pest
see the Hero’s Square and splendid Parliament building.
We set sail for Bratislava in the afternoon. (B,L,D)
DAY 2: Dürnstein to Vienna We arrive
in Dürnstein this morning, set in the heart of the beautiful
Wachau wine region where vineyards lace softly rolling hills.
This tiny, walled town is probably the most photographed spot
in the Wachau, thanks to the beautiful ice-blue and white
Baroque tower that overlooks the river. A stroll through the
medieval cobblestone streets reveals old burgher houses, wine
taverns and quaint 16th and 18th-century houses. An optional
walking tour is available of the Old Town, the castle ruins
and the former Collegiate Church, culminating in a wine tasting
in one of the charming taverns. This afternoon, relax on board
and take in the scenery as we sail to Vienna. (B,L,D)
DAY 6: Bratislava We arrive
in Bratislava this morning, capital of Slovakia. An optional
morning city tour takes in the 13th-century Bratislava Castle,
offering breathtaking views of three countries, and the Gothic
cathedral of St. Martin, site of the coronation of many Hungarian
kings and queens. We also explore the Old Town Hall and the
impressive Mirbach Palace. We set sail for Melk this afternoon.
(B,L,D)
DAY 3: Vienna Enjoy a day exploring
Vienna, a grandiose city which was the showpiece of the all-conquering
Habsburg Dynasty. A number of optional excursions allow you
to capture the spirit of this elegant city. Visit Emperor
Franz Josef’s ‘Ringstrasse’, the horseshoe-shaped
imperial boulevard which surrounds the Hofburg Palace, State
Opera House, Parliament, Burgtheater, the art history museum
and Vienna’s landmark, St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
Or step back in time with a tour of the splendid Schönbrunn
Palace, summer residence of Empress Maria Theresia and the
Habsburgs. See also the 12th-century castle of Liechtenstein
and Baden, an old Roman spa, in the southern woods. (B,L,D)
DAY 7: Melk to Grein This
morning we dock in Melk, gateway to Austria’s Wachau
Valley. An optional guided tour is available of the magnificent
Benedictine abbey, one of the most splendid examples of Baroque
architecture in Europe. Relax on board this afternoon as we
cruise along the Danube to Grein, where we enjoy a short visit.
This evening we set sail for Passau. (B,L,D)
DAY 4: Esztergom to Budapest We arrive in Esztergom
in Hungary this morning, with its magnificent cathedral, a
replica of St. Peter’s in Rome. An optional overland
excursion is available to Szentendre and Visegrad, featuring
a drive beside the picturesque Danube bend. We continue our
cruise along the Danube, reaching the Hungarian capital of
Budapest this afternoon. One of the most beautiful cities
in Europe, Budapest is comprised of the ancient city, Buda,
on the right bank, and her more modern sister, Pest, on the
left bank. (B,L,D)
DAY 8: Passua to UK We dock
in Passau this morning and transfer to the airport for your
return flight to the UK. (B)
Optional Excursions •
City tours of Vienna, Budapest & Bratislava.
