DAY 1: To Brussels
for a three-night stay in the 5-star Renaissance Hotel.
DAY 2: Brussels (included). Spend the day in the city of Brussels.
Belgium’s capital has much to see and do. Sightseeing attractions
include the Grand Place and the cheeky Manneken Pis Statuette;
for shopping, try Antoine Dansaert Straat and Avenue Loiuse
for fashion; for bargains explore the lower city around
Rue Neuve. Also, be sure not to miss the Gallerie St. Hubert,
a gorgeous, glass-roofed arcade in the centre of town, lined
with cafés, theatres and luxury stores. The arcade was built
in 1847 and has the distinction of being the first shopping
arcade in Europe. Good restaurants are everywhere in Brussels,
including the one at our hotel, and for dining out in the
old town, try the area around the Rue des Bouchers. During
the day you can also join our optional sightseeing tour
with local guide. We see the most famous landmark of the
city, the Atomium, built to celebrate the 1958 World Trade
Fair, as well as the Chinese Tower and Japanese Pavilion
and the Royal Palace of Laeken, the official residence of
the King of Belgium, and also visit the gardens of Cinquantenaire
Park. Why not join our optional afternoon excursion to nearby
Waterloo, site of the victory of the Duke of Wellington
over Napoleon (his last conflict) at the famous Battle in
1815. B
DAY 3: Spend a
further day in Brussels. In the afternoon, join our optional
excursion to Maasmechelen Village, a chic designer outlet
with over 100 shops and boutiques. The ‘Village’ is the
largest outlet shopping attraction in Belgium and prices
on collections here can be at least 33 percent less in comparison
with those prices offered on the same collections in boutiques
the previous year. B
DAY 4: To Calais,
then return home. B
