For over 500 years this pretty town, in the heart of the South Downs, has been the seat of the Duke of Norfolk, with the stately Arundel Castle presiding regally over the town. Today the town retains a Victorian charm overlooking the River Arun, and is a perfect base for exploring the surrounding South Downs countryside and the lovely seaside towns dotted along the Sussex Coast.

FULL DAY
We head for the coast today and include visits to some of the most popular seaside resorts to be found along this stretch of the English Channel. First to Brighton, a vibrant and lively city with an extensive promenade, a superb pier and great shopping in the famous 'Lanes'. Moving along the coast we come to Worthing, a tranquil resort with an abundance of pretty gardens and a five mile seafront before arriving in the sedate resort of Bognor Regis, which has managed to maintain its identity and slower pace of life despite the more boisterous resorts along the Sussex Coastline.

FULL DAY
Today enjoy a superb scenic tour of the rolling South Downs. First we head into the heart of West Sussex and the picturesque Rother Valley to explore the ancient market town of Midhurst, famous for its evening curfew bell and lovely half-timbered housing. We then come to Petworth, huddled beneath the walls of the Duke of Somerset's estate and where the collection of small lanes and Tudor buildings cluster around a small market place. We return via Storrington which enjoys a magnificent position at the foot of the South Downs.

This landmark former Georgian coaching inn is located in the centre of Arundel, on the high street, below the battlements of Arundel Castle, and with the scenic River Arun close by.
