FULL DAY This morning we ascend into the Brecon Beacons National Park to reach Penderyn where we visit the Welsh Whisky Company (admission included) with a chance to taste a drop of their fine malt. We continue past Merthyr Tydfil to reach the Big Pit National Coal Museum, where we travel 300 feet underground to discover what life was like at a Welsh coal face. FULL DAY Today we tour through the Cambrian Mountains to Machynlleth, site of the first Welsh Parliament, and board the Cambrian Coastal Railway (ticket included). It's a truly memorable journey hugging the Welsh coastline as it skirts the mountain ranges of Cader Idris before crossing the spectacular Barmouth Bridge, to disembark in this popular seaside resort. HALF DAY A morning excursion into the Elan Valley with its series of reservoirs in a spectacular scenic setting. The visitor centre has an exhibit of the water scheme, showing photographs of houses drowned when the reservoirs were built. |
