& Provence - Holiday Itinerary
DAY 1:
UK to Paris We travel to Dover for the ferry crossing to
Calais and on to our overnight hotel in Paris.
DAY 6:
Le Burge to Orange We continue our journey through France and
head for Carcassonne, one of France’s top
tourist attractions and a truly breathtaking sight.
The fairytale style turreted fortress and ramparts
can be seen for miles. Then we travel to
Orange, with a well-preserved Roman
ampitheatre, where we stay two nights at the
Park Inn (3*). (B,D)
DAY 2: Paris to Tours We spend some free time in the romantic
French capital, Paris, with the opportunity to
explore some of the endless list of sights from
the glamorous Champs Elysées to the
spectacular Eiffel Tower, as well as many other
hidden treasures. Why not join our optional
guided city tour or optional cruise along the
river Seine, gently gliding its way through the
heart of the city. Then we continue to the Loire
Valley, land of magnificent châteaux, and our
final destination is Tours, located between the
rivers Loire and Cher, arriving at the Hotel
Turone (3*) where we spend the next two
nights. (B,D)
DAY 7: Orange This morning we enjoy a visit to historic
Avignon, an immaculately preserved medieval
town with a centre enclosed by walls and home
to the magnificent Pope’s Palace, dating from
the 14th century. On our optional excursion this
afternoon discover the stunning beauty of
Provence, with its wealth of landscapes,
picturesque villages, sun-drenched hillsides alive
with scents of pine trees, flora and aromatic
herbs. (B,D)
DAY 3: Tours Dotted along the banks of the gently winding
river Loire and set in beautiful countryside are
magnificent fairy-tale châteaux and delightful
gardens recalling grandeurs of a bygone era.
This morning we visit the impressive Chambord
Château, the largest and most dramatic château
in the Loire. The geometric construction is a
masterpiece of stone and slate, reputedly
inspired by Leonardo da Vinci. During the
afternoon there is an optional visit to Saumur,
overlooked by its imposing fairy-tale château
with four tall corner towers rising high above
the town. Being at the heart of one of the
oldest vineyards in France it is famous for its
white wines. It is also known for the National
Riding School, home to the elite cavalry
regiment the ‘Cadre Noir’. (B,D)
DAY 8: Orange to Paris We head northwards arriving at our overnight
hotel in Paris in time for dinner. (B,D)
DAY 4: Tours to Le Burge Leaving the Loire our journey brings us to
Cognac, home of the famous French brandy.
We visit the Château de Cognac which
illustrates the history of the brandy and enjoy a
guided tour and tasting. We continue to the
Dordogne and Le Bugue where we spend the
next two nights at the Hotel Royal Vézère (3*).

DAY 9: Paris to UK We travel to Calais for the ferry to Dover and
then home. (B)
DAY 5: Le Burge Today we explore the Dordogne, an area of
scenic delights hills and forests, steep gorges
tumbling into rivers, picturesque castles and
country houses. We visit the medieval fortified
town of Rocamadour, set in a spectacular
position in a narrow gorge and clinging to the
cliffs above the River Alzou. It was once an
important place of pilgrimage and even today
pilgrims come from all over the world to see the
Black Madonna, housed in the cathedral. (B,D)
