Passing through some of Bavaria's most scenic countryside and picturesque villages, Germany's fabled Romantic Road has become one of Europe's most revered journeys. From the Franconia vineyards, past clear waters and rolling hills to the foothills of the German Alps, and ending at the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein, it's a wonderful experience you'll never forget.

Your Itinerary

SUNDAY
From local departure points we cross the Channel to Calais and onward to our overnight stop in Cologne.

MONDAY
Today we meander along the banks of the River Rhine as it passes through the spectacular Rhine Gorge before rejoining the motorway network and reaching Wurzburg - known as the gateway to the Romantic Road - for our one night stay. This afternoon we include a guided walking tour of this charming old city with its wealth of fine architecture.

TUESDAY
This morning we drive into the Bavarian countryside to reach Rothenburg ob der Tauber, perched on a hill with far reaching views. This medieval town is regarded as one of the most beautiful along the 'Road' with a complex network of cobbled lanes within the old town and is the most popular spot along the route. We continue to Drinkelsbuhl, a quieter town with colourful buildings and fortified walls. This evening we reach Nuremberg for a two night stay.

WEDNESDAY
Today enjoy a day at leisure to explore Nuremburg.

THURSDAY
Today we pick up the Romantic Road once more and visit Nordlingen, a circular medieval town before driving through some of the most scenic spots of the route to reach Augsburg. This afternoon we include a walking tour of the city, one of the oldest in Germany, where many reminders of the city's wealthy past can be seen in the Renaissance and Baroque architecture. We continue to our hotel for two nights in Konigsbrunn.

FRIDAY
We complete our journey today at the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein, the beloved castle of King Ludwig (admission included). For the real picture-book view of the castle, don't forget to walk up to the Marianbrucke (Mary's Bridge) over the Pollat Gorge. This afternoon we visit Fussen, set between towering alpine peaks and the shores of Lake Forgensee.

SATURDAY
Today we leave Bavaria and return to our overnight stop near Cologne.

SUNDAY
Today we cross the Channel and return homeward.
