Adriatic Discovery - Holiday Itinerary
DAY 1: UK to N. France
To Dover for the ferry to Calais, from where we continue our journey to our overnight hotel.
DAY 8: Dubrovnik
A day at leisure in one of the most attractive cities of Europe. The old town dates back to the 13th century, and is remarkably unchanged. It is completely encircled by walls, with just two entrances in to the city, both leading to the main promenade, the Stradun. Within the city there are many sights to explore, including the Franciscan monastery, the Rector’s Palace, and a stunning cathedral. (B,D)
DAY 2: N. France to Lake Lucerne
We journey to Switzerland today where we enjoy dinner and an overnight stay on the shores of Lake Lucerne in the Hotel Hertenstein (3*). (B, D)
DAY 9: Dubrovnic to Plitvice
From Dubrovnik we head firstly to Omis, with opportunity to join an optional boat ride along its famous Gorge formed by the River Cetina. From Omis, we head towards the spectacular Plitvice National Park, named as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1979. We head to the nearby Hotel Macola for dinner and our two night stay (3*). (B,D)
DAY 3: Lake Lucerne to Grado
After breakfast we continue our journey crossing the border into Italy, through the Dolomites and south to the plains of Veneto, to reach the historic island-town of Grado for an overnight stay at Hotel Touring (3*). (B, D)
DAY 10: Plitvice
Spend a day at leisure in this stunning National Park, consisting of sixteen turquoise lakes with magnificent waterfalls, that stretch for eight kilometers and are surrounded by forest (some walking is necessary to fully explore this national park) (3*). (B,D)
DAY 4: Grado to Lovran
Today sees us travelling in to Slovenia, visiting Lipica Stud Farm, which was founded in 1580, and where the horses for the Spanish Riding School in Vienna have been bred ever since. We continue to the Postonja Caves for a guided tour, then continuing to the seaside resort of Lovran situated on the Istrian Peninsular, for our two night stay at the Hotel Lovran (3*). (B, D)
DAY 11: Plitvice to Kagreb
From Plitvice, we travel to the ancient capital of Croatia, Zagreb. The high town is home to the Presidential Palace, the Parliament buildings, and wonderful old winding streets which are a pleasure to explore. We stay overnight at Hotel Laguna (3*) or similar. (B,D)
DAY 5: Lovran
A day at leisure in the resort of Lovran, or join an optional excursion to see the highlights of the Istrian Peninsular, including the ancient town of Pula and beautiful Rovijn. This area of Croatia has been a popular holiday destination for centuries, and its easy to see why, with quaint Venetian towns, pretty ports, and a beautiful coastline. (B,D)
DAY 12: Zagreb to Karlsruhe
From Zagreb we head through the Alps to Austria and on to Germany, for our overnight stay at the Queens Hotel in Karlsruhe (3*). (B,D)
DAY 6: Lovran to Split
We leave Istria behind today, as we head southwards along the stunning Croatian coast to the historic city of Split. On arrival, enjoy an included walking tour of Split, where we visit such highlights as the Roman Palace of Diocletian, and the maze of streets in the old town. Enjoy time at leisure in this fascinating city, before we make our way to our overnight at the Hotel Marjan located just outside of the city, close to the port (3*). (B,D)
DAY 13: Karlsruhe to N. France
In to France, we head for Northern France for dinner and an overnight stay. (B, D)
DAY 7: Split to Dubrovnik
We depart Split and head south once more towards Dubrovnik, the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, a breathtaking walled city which is picturesquely sited between the between the Dinaric Alps and the Adriatic Sea. Upon arrival in the city, enjoy an included city tour, before heading to our hotel for the next two nights, Hotel Ivka, which is situated just outside the city (3*). (B, D)
DAY 14: N. France to UK
To Calais for the ferry crossing to Dover, and then onwards home. (B)
