Period dramas have seen a renaissance on British television over recent years, bringing a real sense of
the past into our living rooms. The quaintly English surroundings of Wiltshire and the Cotswolds have
become a favoured area for such dramas with their abundance of stately homes and picture-perfect
villages. Our new five day break captures the most popular and recognisable locations as we step back
in time amid these unspoilt landscapes and majestic country homes. |

FULL DAY This morning we make our way to Highclere Castle (admission included), the stunning backdrop to the ITV costume drama, Downton Abbey. The castle is portrayed as an Edwardian country house in the TV series and as home to the Crawley family. This afternoon we head into Oxfordshire and visit the 'city of dreaming spires', Oxford, itself the back drop to many popular TV dramas (including Inspector Morse) before returning via the Vale of the White Horse. FULL DAY Today we pass through the newest 'Royal' town of Wooten Bassett and on to Lacock. Famous for its picturesque streets, this finely preserved, National Trust protected, town has been widely used in period dramas, from Cranford to the hugely popular Pride and Prejudice. This afternoon we visit the beautiful Roman city of Bath. FULL DAY A full day excursion today as we tour into the Cotswold Hills to Tetbury. This attractive Cotswolds town has many elegant buildings and specialty shops to explore before we visit Chavenage House (admission included), portrayed as Candleford House in the TV drama Lark Rise to Candleford. Passing the source of the Thames, we continue to Cirencester, with its bustling market square and medieval atmosphere. |
