With its lovely sweeping bay and miles of golden sandy beaches, it's easy to see why Sandown is such
a traditional holiday favourite. Retaining much of its Victorian atmosphere, the resort has a pier,
seaside cafes, and lovely walks by the sea wall to neighbouring Shanklin and along the cliffs to Culver
Down for panoramic views of the Channel. Inland the pace is relaxed and unhurried, but with many
holiday attractions. Find peace and quiet, and peace of mind, on this unique holiday island. |

FULL DAY Prepare for a scenic delight today as we tour the island from East to West, taking in some of the areas of outstanding natural beauty that are so typical of this lovely island. We head along the coast road to Ventnor Botanical Gardens, first planted in the 1970's. Here the plants thrive in the extraordinary climate - justifying Ventnor's reputation as England's Madeira. We pause at Blackgang Chine to admire the view across the English Channel, and then make our way to Alum Bay with its famous twenty-one colour sand cliffs, and views of the famous Needles. We return via Yarmouth with its picturesque pleasure boat harbour and panoramic views across the Solent towards the mainland. FULL DAY Today we head to Shanklin Old Village, a delightful part of Shanklin containing a myriad of thatched houses, pubs, restaurants and gift shops that create a wonderful picture-postcard atmosphere. Continuing on we come to Godshill, arguably the prettiest village on the island, before visiting Arreton Barns Craft Village where you can discover real village life and enjoy watching local artists working in the craft centre, plus numerous displays of rural life in times gone by. |
