The Jewels of Italy - Itinerary
DAY 1:
Fly to Milan where you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the Milan or Brescia area.
DAY 2: Siena (included)
Chianciano Terme where we stay for three nights we visit Siena. No visit to Italy is complete without seeing this beautiful city. The Piazza del Campo is perhaps the most attractive in Italy.. B,D
DAY 3: Assisi (optional)
Famed for its close association with St. Francis, the famous Basilica, where St. Francis is buried, really is a must see. B,D
DAY 4: Rome (included)
We visit the ‘eternal’ city. An optional guided tour by coach and on foot is a fantastic way to see the spectacular sights and enjoy the ambience of one of Europe’s great cities. B,D
DAY 5: Florence (included)
We travel north to Florence. Steeped in the culture of the Renaissance, Florence’s fine art and architecture is astounding. Our optional guided sightseeing tour begins at Piazza Michelangelo for a panoramic view over the city and continues on foot in the centre where you can discover the highlights of this cultured city, including the Ponte Vecchio. We continue to Montecatini in Tuscany for an overnight stay. B,D
DAY 6: Pisa and Lucca (included)
To Pisa, where the famous Leaning Tower seems to defy gravity. Explore the so-called ‘Field of Miracles’ where time seems almost to have stood still since the 12th century, with all the cream stone edifices almost gleaming in the calm light. Next we visit Lucca, which, despite its imposing Renaissance walls, retains the layout founded by the former Roman colony in 180BC, then continue to Lake Garda for a four-night stay. B,D
DAY 7: Verona (included)
This ‘classical’ city is home to a wealth of historic buildings, including the mighty Roman Arena (now used for opera) and Juliet’s balcony. Join our optional sightseeing tour to reveal the history of this magnificent city and take time to take a coffee in one of the many cafés in Piazza Bra, overlooking the Arena. B,D
DAY 8: Venice (optional); Lagoon Cruise (optional)
The magnificent buildings, surrounded by bridges and canals, are a sign of the city’s former (and continued) wealth and prosperity. See the Bridge of Sighs, St. Mark’s Square, the Doges’ Palace and stroll through the town to the Rialto Bridge. Join our optional Venice lagoon cruise, which gives you a view over St. Mark’s Square from the water and sails past the famous islands and the Lido, Venice’s seaside resort and home of the International Film Festival. B,D
DAY 9: Lake Garda Tour (optional)
We will travel along the shores of this magnificent lake, visiting picturesque villages and small towns, including delightful Sirmione, enjoying a cruise across the lake. B,D
