FULL DAY This morning we head deep into the Peak District and visit stately Chatsworth House (admission included). Known as the 'Palace of the Peaks' the interior rooms are treasure troves of priceless furniture and magnificent paintings. The landscaped gardens feature sculptures, mazes and waterworks including the famous Cascade, falling 200 yards down the hillside. In the afternoon we visit Bakewell, a popular tourist centre famous for its puddings which are sold in the local bakeries. FULL DAY Today we discover the High Peak with a memorable journey over the Snake Pass and to the shores of Ladybower Reservoir - famed as the practice area for the WWII Dambuster crews. We continue to the favourite tourist centre of Castleton, surrounded by 'showcaves', where the famous Blue John stone is mined. |
