Rome, Sorrento & Capri - Holiday Itinerary
DAY 1: UK to N. France
To Dover for the crossing to Calais and on to our hotel in Northern France for dinner and overnight stay. (D)
DAY 8: Sorrento to Rome
We leave the Mediterranean coast for the outskirts of Rome for the night at the hotel Aris Garden (4*) (B,D)
DAY 2: N. France to Weggis
Travelling in to Switzerland for our second night on the shores of Lake Lucerne, staying at the Hotel Hertenstein (3*). (B,D)
DAY 9: Rome to Orvieto
A full day trip to Italy’s bustling capital city, where ancient and modern live side by side. Marvel at the Colosseum, the remains of the Forum or St Peter’s Square. Pause on the Spanish Steps and watch the stylish Romans going about their daily business, and don’t forget to throw a coin into the Trevi fountain for good luck! Then to Orvieto for two nights at the Hotel Oasi dei Discepoli, idyllically set in peaceful gardens, with views to the town (3*). (B,D)
DAY 3: Weggis to Montecatini
A scenic drive as we cross into Italy to Montecatini, Italy’s leading spa resort, for the next two nights at the Hotel Arnolfo, located close to the resort centre (3*). (B,D)
DAY 10: Orvieto
Enjoy the sights of the old town of Orvieto, perched atop a volcanic rock. The funicular (close to our hotel), takes you up to the town centre, from where you can walk through the cobbled streets to the Cathedral. Our optional excursion visits Umbria's jewel, Assisi. (B,D)
DAY 4: Montecatini
Relax and enjoy a day at leisure in Montecatini, which boasts nine spas, and broad leafy avenues. There is a funicular which goes up to the old town, from where you can enjoy some spectacular views. Alternatively, our optional excursion is to Lucca and Pisa, two of Tuscany’s main attractions, with a wealth of interesting sights. (B,D)
DAY 11: Orvieto to Tabiano
Northwards to Parma, in the heartland of northern Italy, with time for sightseeing. We then head on to Tabiano, a peaceful spa town set in idyllic Tuscan countryside for our overnight stop, Hotel Ducala (4*) (B,D)
DAY 5: Montecatini to Sorrento
Enjoy the changing Tuscan landscape as we travel south to the Mediterranean resort of Sorrento for a three night stay at our centrally located hotel. A favourite holiday destination, the Old Town has a maze of little narrow streets, lined with shops selling traditional goods such as beautifully handcrafted wooden pictures and the delicious lemon liqueur, limoncello. En route we stop at Pompeii, the town frozen in time when Vesuvius erupted in AD79. Many of the historical sights have since been uncovered, and the city is now the most complete record of everyday life in the Roman Empire. There is also the option of exploring the archaeological site (entrance fee payable locally). We stay at the Hotel Zi Teresa or similar (3*).
(B,D)
DAY 12: Tabiano to Basle
North again, we head back towards Switzerland, and on to Mulhouse and the Hotel Bristol (3*). (B,D)
DAY 6: Sorrento
A day at leisure in Sorrento. As the hotel occupies a central location you can enjoy the resort, which you will find within easy walking distance. Why not join our optional excursion along the Amalfi coast, surely one of Europe’s most beautiful coastlines, with breathtaking views of colourful villages cascading down to the sea, and spend some time in the jewel of the coast, Amalfi. This evening, there is an included folklore show in Sorrento. (B,D)
DAY 13: Basle to N. France
Through the scenic Alsace region and onto Northern France for dinner and the final night at our overnight hotel. (B,D)
DAY 7: Capri
A relaxing day as we take to the seas for our boat trip over to Capri - it's easy to see why this enchanting island so captivated Gracie Fields. Jagged rocks rise out of the deep blue waters and hide lovely little towns. (B,D)
DAY 14: N. France to UK
Just a short drive to Calais then Dover, and home with happy memories. (B)
Optional Excursions • Amalfi Coast • Assisi • Rome by night • Lucca & Pisa
