Combining a wonderful blend of scenery - from the foothills of the Pennines to the dramatic North York Moors, this new five day break captures the finest aspects of Northern England. We include a memorable journey by steam train across the moors, together with visits to the majestic cathedral cities of Durham and Ripon, the proud market towns of Pickering and Richmond, and a chance to sample a drop of good old Yorkshire ale!

FULL DAY
This morning we make our way to Whitby, a picturesque harbour town and tourist centre overlooked by the ruined Whitby Abbey. Not only is it where Bram Stoker wrote his famous novel about Dracula, it's also home to both Captain Cook and, reputedly, the best fish and chips in Britain! This afternoon we have a treat in store as we join the spectacular North York Moors Railway (ticket included) for a nostalgic train ride across the wild moorlands to the ancient market town of Pickering.

FULL DAY
This morning we visit the small cathedral city of Ripon where it is market day in the square. Later we drive along the River Ure Valley to Masham and the Black Sheep Brewery (admission included). Here we include a guided tour of this famous Yorkshire brewery where square Yorkshire fermenting vessels are still used to this day. Our return takes us to the county town of Richmond, gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, where a magnificent castle towers above the River Swale.

HALF DAY
A morning excursion to the beautiful city of Durham, nestled around a bend in the River Wear with its majestic cathedral and castle overlooking the narrow cobbled lanes and bridges of the city.

This historic Georgian mansion is situated in nine acres of grounds just one mile from the market town of Darlington.
