Croatia has established itself as a beautiful alternative to the Mediterranean islands, where crystal waters and radiant sunshine offer warm and tranquil days amid a welcoming culture that sees tourist numbers grow year on year. The Istrian Riviera, by the shores of the Adriatic, and sheltered by the mountains of neighbouring Italy and Austria, has many attractions from the Roman history of Pula to the inland marvels of the Postojna Caves.

Your Itinerary

THURSDAY
We head for the Channel crossing and on to our overnight stop near Cologne.

FRIDAY
We continue through Germany and in to Austria for our overnight stop near Salzburg.

SATURDAY
This morning we enter Slovenia and pause by the beautiful shores of Lake Bled before we continue to our hotel in Porec for the next seven nights.

SUNDAY
A free day to explore the resort of Porec.

MONDAY
Today we include a visit to Pula, an ancient Roman city. The central attraction is the first century amphitheatre (admission included), which still to this day holds concerts and performances. We include a guided tour of Pula to discover the equally ancient 1st century triumphal arch and the temple of Rome and Augustus as well as its magnificent cathedral.

TUESDAY
A half day tour to Rovinj, a pretty little town, founded by the Romans, it retains its character with cobbled streets and a cathedral overlooking the town with spectacular views of the Adriatic.

WEDNESDAY
A spectacular start as we descend the vast Postojna Caves (admission included), in a special train which takes you on a journey deep into the heart of the caves, where a guide leads you on a walking tour through the complex network with magnificent stalactites and stalagmites before entering the Grand Chamber - capable of hosting 10,000 capacity orchestral concerts. This afternoon we visit the Lipica Horse Stud (admission included), the breeding stud for the classical Lipizzaner dancing horses.

THURSDAY
Relax at your hotel today or explore Porec at leisure.

FRIDAY
A final day to enjoy Porec.

SATURDAY
Today we leave the Istrian Riviera and return through the mountains and tunnels of Austria for our overnight stop.

SUNDAY
We continue our return journey to our final overnight stop near Cologne.

MONDAY
Crossing the Channel we return for home.
