Excursions
and visits
Linz
(included).
By coach to the city of
Linz for a reception at the town hall followed by a guided
tour of the city highlights and free time.
Vienna (included).
By coach to Vienna for
a full-day visit. Our optional guided sightseeing tour (included
on SILVER SERVICE) introduces the principal sights of the
city, including the Hofburg Palace, Parliament building, Opera
House, National Theatre and the City Hall. We pass the famous
Prater Wheel, before returning to the centre via the former
imperial boulevard known as the ‘Ringstrasse’.
Cesky Krumlov (optional).
By coach into the Czech
Republic, to the medieval town of Cesky Krumlov, one of the
most beautiful towns of southern Bohemia, with its imposing
13th-century castle. The rich Renaissance architecture still
reflects the influence of the nobility who lived here in the
14th century, bringing with them great affluence, commerce
and culture.
Passau with guided sightseeing
and Cruise (included).
By coach to Schlögen, where
we board the ‘MFS Kaiserin Elisabeth’ and begin our cruise
upstream to the border town of Passau. Considered to be one
of the most spectacular settings in Germany, Passau’s magnificent
St. Stephen’s Cathedral is certainly worth a visit, being
home to the world’s largest organ. Enjoy a guided sightseeing
tour, before rejoining our coach to Engelhartszell, where
we board our ship. We cruise downstream to Obermühl, where
we enjoy a brass band, before rejoining our ship for a four-course
dinner as we cruise all the way to Linz, then back to our
hotel by coach.
Melk, Wachau and Cruise
(included).
We start with a cruise
from Linz, downstream towards the Abbey of Melk, one of the
most famous monastic houses of Austria. We sail along the
most scenic part of the Danube Valley and through the beautiful
wine-producing region of the Wachau. We visit the Gothic town
of Grein for a sparkling reception and piano concert. We continue
by ship to Durnstein and the ruins of Kunringer Castle, where
Richard the Lionheart was reputedly held prisoner. Here we
enjoy coffee and cake onboard, before returning by coach to
our hotel for dinner.
Guided Walk (included).
Enjoy a walk with local
guide through the historic town of Hellmonsödt.
Please note:
May 10, May 24, Aug 30 and Sep 6 departures operate with a
different itinerary on the following days of the tour: On
Day 6 you will travel by coach to Engelhartszell, where we
include a guided tour of the monastery. Continue by coach
to Passau for a city tour, before joining our ship for the
cruise back to Linz with four-course dinner on board. The
brass band festival at Obermühl is not included on these dates.
On Day 7 you will travel by coach to Grein for a sparkling
wine reception, followed by coach to Melk. Time for individual
sightseeing before cruising from Melk to Krems. Return to
Hellmonsödt by coach.
