Valkenburg is a delightful little
Dutch hill town built around a
romantic ruined castle and sits
at the 'Crossroads of Europe'
between Germany and Belgium. The unique Christmas market takes place in beautifully lit old caves which run underneath the town. In the evening we travel just over the border to the pretty German town of Aachen. The main Christmas markets sit around the impressive Cathedral and Town Hall. The funfair, illuminations and varied stalls of Aachen's 'Christmas City' have made this a popular festive destination. As we journey home, on day three, we have a short visit to Bruges, where you can sample the picturesque canals and bridges of the 'Venice of the North'. |
