Day 1:
UK to Madrid From your
preferred UK airport to Madrid where you will be met and taken
to the hotel Praga (4*). Meet your fellow travellers and your
Tour Manager over dinner this evening. (D)
Day 7:
Lisbon to Porto We head
northwards to the mouth of the river Douro and the charming
city of Porto. Our hotel for the next two nights will be the
Vila Gale (4*). (B,D)
Day 2: Madrid Enjoy an included guided
sightseeing tour of Madrid before spending the rest of the
day at leisure. This city well and truly spoils its visitors
with choices: the magnificent 17th-century Plaza Mayor houses
outdoor cafés, concerts and theatre festivals beneath
its beautifully muralled balconies, while The Prado exhibits
the world’s greatest collection of Spanish art, including
works by El Greco and Goya. Included entrance to the Royal
Palace, built by Spain’s first Bourbon kings. (B,D)
Day 8: Porto Our day is spent discovering
Porto, Portugal’s second largest city. Set on a hill
sweeping down to the banks of the River Douro, Porto has been
exporting wine since the 18th century and to this day port
wine remains a thriving business, with over 80 wine lodges
in the area. The old town centre is a maze of narrow streets
opening out onto attractive squares. Our guided tour will
include visits to the cathedral, the elegant Stock Exchange
and to a wine cellar to sample the port, then time at leisure,
perhaps taking an optional boat trip along the scenic River
Douro. (B,D)
Day 3: Madrid to Seville We head to Andalucia and
its main city, Seville, where we stay for two nights at the
Seville Congresos (4*). (B,D)
Day 9: Porto to Salamanca We cross back into Spain today and head
for Salamanca, one of the most beautiful cities, usually bathed
in a golden light created by the golden sandstone from which
almost all of the
city’s buildings seem to be constructed. (B,D)
Day 4: Seville See some
of the many sights on our included guided city tour. A delightful
mixture of Moorish and Christian, from the ‘Alcazar’,
the former royal residence and a masterpiece of patios and
halls, to the ‘Plaza de España’, ornately
decorated with ceramic tiles. Seville’s Gothic Cathedral
(entrance included) is Spain’s largest and those who
climb the Giralda Tower will be rewarded with superb views.

Day 10: Salamanca to Madrid We return to the capital
with the afternoon at leisure to further explore your favourite
sights, or maybe do a spot of last minute shopping. Hotel
Praga (4*). (B,D)
Day 5: Seville to Lisbon Another
day, another country as we cross into Portugal and travel
to the capital, Lisbon, and the hotel Lutecia (4*), our base
for the next two nights. (B,D)
Day 11: Madrid to UK To the airport for your
return flight to the UK. (B)
Day 6: Lisbon We start
the day with a guided sightseeing tour of Portugal’s
capital city. Set on seven hills sloping down to the banks
of the River Tagus, Lisbon is traditionally a sea-faring city
from where some of the great discoverers, like Vasco de Gama,
set sail
in the 15th and 16th centuries. Visit their monument in the
Belem district, admire the intricate design of the Jéronimous
monastery, explore the quaint narrow streets of the Alfama,
or enjoy the atmosphere in lively Rossio square. (B,D)
