Full Day: Zermatt & the Matterhorn On the Italian border of Switzerland lies Zermatt, the village at the foot of the Matterhorn, the most photographed mountain in the world. Situated at 5,315ft above sea level and surrounded by some of the most famous peaks in the Alps, Zermatt is the most picturesque of the Alpine villages. Full Day: Lake Orta Lake Orta is one of Italy's smallest lakes and has a pretty ancient village known as 'Venice without water', where narrow cobbled streets sit between quaint houses and elaborate palaces. Full Day: Borromean Islands Situated on the western side of Lake Maggiore, these islands take their name from the aristocratic Borromean family who took ownership in the 16th century. With its ornamental gardens the island of 'Bella' is the epitome of opulence, whilst the third island 'dei pescatori' remains a pretty fishing village.
