D-Day
Landings in Normandy Itinerary
DAY 1: To Normandy
for a 3 or 4-night stay.
DAY 2:The British Sector (included). We start in the British Sector with some
of the initial landings by 6th Airborne Division, visiting
Ranville Commonwealth Cemetery and Pegasus Bridge. We then
visit each of the beaches in the British/ Canadian sector,
explaining the significance of each beach, with time taken
to bring to life the story of the only Victoria Cross of
D Day, won by CSM Stan Hollis on ‘Gold Beach’. We lunch
in Arromanches, with the opportunity to visit the famous
Mulberry Harbour Museum. In the afternoon we visit the German
gun battery at Longues, made famous by the film, ‘The Longest
Day’. We end the day with a poignant visit to the Commonwealth
War Cemetery at Bayeux. B
DAY 3: Merville Batter
(optional) and The American Sector (included)
We continue our story of the 6th Airborne Division and the
battles for the Eastern Flank, with an optional visit to
the Merville Battery, which was heroically disarmed by the
9th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, commanded by Lt.
Col. Terence Otway D.S.O. in the early hours of 6 June.
It is now a superbly restored Museum. We also visit the
Bréville Ridge, an important sector of high ground, where
your guide will take you through the story of the battles
for the important eastern flank and the numerous attempts
to take the city of Caen. After lunch it’s the highly emotive
American Sector, visiting the American Cemetery overlooking
the tragic Omaha Beach, then a short visit to the beach
itself, walking in the footsteps of these brave young men.
We then move on to Utah Beach and finally into Ste. Mère
Église, the scene of some of the tragic landings of the
U.S. Paras, the Screaming Eagles and the All-Americans.
B
DAY 4:
(5 day break only) Inland Battles (included) We investigate
the ‘inland battles’, including Jerusalem Cemetery and Villers

afternoon, we visit the ‘Falaise Pocket’, walking and driving
the ‘Corridor of Death’ – the only escape route for two
German armies. Our day ends at the Polish Memorial at Montormel.
