DAY 1: You fly
to Prague where you’re met and transferred to your hotel
for a two-night stay. PRAGUE SIGHTSEEING TOUR (included).
Our walking tour will introduce the splendid architecture
of Prague Old Town, the world’s largest UNESCO monument,
with the chance to learn about the city’s long rich history
as we see the ‘Astronomical Clock’, Charles Bridge and Wenceslas
Square. D
DAY 5:
Petrodvorets
(optional) The magnificent
imperial palace of Petrodvorets is situated 18 miles from
St. Petersburg in a spectacular location on the Gulf of
Finland. The Baroque and Rococo interiors are breathtaking,
but at Petrodvorets it is the gardens that are the main
attraction. Covering 2,500 acres, the beautifully landscaped
estate has 150 fountains and 4 cascades, the most amazing
being the Great Cascade, which flows from beneath the palace
to the Baltic Sea. Our guide will take us through its history
including events during the October Revolution, when the
whole estate was nationalised and turned into a public museum
by Lenin. B,D
DAY 2: Prague Castle
(optional) and River Moldau Cruise with lunch (optional) This morning, why not discover all the
hidden secrets of the world’s largest inhabited castle,
hear the tales of Good King Wenceslas, and admire St. Vitus
Cathedral. We’re guided through the splendid interiors of
the palace and learn about Czech history and culture. Afterwards,
take to the water on a Moldau River cruise, during which,
a commentary will be provided, taking us past spectacular
views of the city. Lunch will be served on board, with a
selection of Czech specialties to enjoy. B,D
DAY 3: We transfer
to Prague Airport and fly to St. Petersburg, where we’re
met and transferred to our hotel for three nights. B,D
DAY 6:
Hermitage (optional). One of
the world’s greatest collections of art, L’Hermitage was
founded in 1764 and is housed in the magnificent former
winter palace of Catherine the Great. The collection has
over 2.7 million items, including masterpieces by Leonardo
Da Vinci, Raphael, Rodin, Rembrandt, Rubens, and the French
Impressionists. The ceremonial rooms can also be visited.
Later, we take the overnight train to Moscow. B,D
DAY 4:
St Petersburg sightseeing (included) and St Petersburg ballet
(optional) A guided
sightseeing tour will introduce us to the famous landmarks,
history and culture of this outstanding city. You’ll
see the magnificent Decembrist’s Square, distinguished
by Falconet’s famed equestrian statue of Peter the
Great, the founder of the city; the Winter Palace, inspired
by the Palace of Versailles; St Issac’s Cathedral,
an enormous structure that can accommodate 13,000 people,
and the Peter and Paul Fortress, which became a notorious
prison for revolutionaries. Considered the birthplace of
Russian classical ballet, enjoy an evening at one of the
city’s famed ballet theatres. B,D
DAY 7:
Moscow sightseeing (included) We start
the day with an included guided sightseeing tour which introduces
the main sights and attractions of the city, like Red Square,
the Kremlin, Novodevichy Convent and St Basil’s Cathedral.
We then transfer to our hotel for a two-night stay. B,D
DAY 8:
A free
day or join our guided tour of the KREMLIN and ARMOURY (optional).
As the former residence of the Tsars, and today’s Russian
political nervecentre, the Kremlin is an unrivalled architectural
ensemble. Our local guide will reveal the history and stories
behind the buildings and personalities that have shaped
this spectacular complex. The Armoury, the treasury of the
Russian Tsars, which hosts a unique collection of gold and
silver items, weapons, the state regalia, thrones, carriages,
coronation dresses of the 16th to 19th centuries, and ten
of the world-famous Fabergé eggs. B,D
DAY 9:
We transfer to the airport for your
flight home via Prague. B

Your Hotels
You’ll stay for two nights at the 3-star Hotel Step in
Prague; three nights at the 3-star Hotel Anderson or
similar in St Petersburg; one night in a 2-berth couchette
on the rail journey between St Peterburg and Moscow
and two nights at the 3-star Hotel Ukraine,
or similar, in Moscow.
Your Flights
Prices are based on flights
with Czech Airlines from London Heathrow. Flights are also
available from Manchester at a supplement of £15 per person.
Flight times and prices will be confirmed at the time of booking.
Visa – important note
A visa is required for entry into Russia for which an extra
charge of approximately £60.00 is made. Due to new legislation
the Visa must be completed in electronic format (online, via
www.asla.co.uk, printed off & signed). We will send you
the exact price & helpful instructions on how to apply
approximately 12 weeks prior to departure. Your passport will
need to be sent with your
application which may take upto 6 weeks to process.
