DAY 1: ARRIVE BOSTON Welcome to Boston! A complimentary transfer is provided to your tour hotel. Your Tour Director is at the hotel this afternoon to greet you and answer your questions. Join us at 6:00pm for a Welcome Drink at the hotel. Hotel: Omni Parker House (SF) DAY 2: BOSTON – MAINE COAST – BAR HARBOR (2) Heading north, we travel through Portsmouth, New Hampshire, into the state of Maine. We then journey along the state’s scenic shoreline, offering a glimpse into its rich past in whaling, shipbuilding and lobstering. The quaint villages along the way typify quintessential New England, and our Tour Director will show us a Hidden Treasure. We then cross a narrow spit of land to Mount Desert Island and the seaside town of Bar Harbor for our two-night stay. This evening join your fellow travellers for a Maine lobster dinner. (FB HD) Hotel: Bar Harbor Regency (F) (2 nights) DAY 3: ACADIA NATIONAL PARK EXCURSION & BAR HARBOR AT LEISURE At 1,523 feet, Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park is the first spot in the United States where you can see the sunrise. You won’t be getting up that early, but you still have plenty of time to admire the view from the top of the peak and then descend to discover the natural riches of New England’s only national park. Marvel at granite cliffs overlooking dramatic, windswept beaches, graceful stone bridges arcing over rushing streams and stands of ancient maples, their leaves glowing fiery red, burnt orange and mustard yellow in the crisp autumn air. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure back in Bar Harbor. Sip a coffee by the sea, stroll the quaint Main Street or take an optional nature cruise on Frenchman Bay. (FB) DAY 4: BAR HARBOR – PINKHAM NOTCH – NORTH CONWAY Leaving the Maine coast we turn inland and travel through the colourful woodlands of maples, birch and sumac. Entering New Hampshire, we stop at Pinkham Notch for a gondola ride to the top of Wildcat Mountain with incredible views of the White Mountains. We spend the night in the town of North Conway, a popular year-round resort. After dinner we enjoy a presentation on the flora and fauna of the White Mountains. (FB D) Hotel: Red Jacket Mountain View Resort (F) DAY 5: NORTH CONWAY – LUDLOW (2) Traverse the White Mountains today. As you make your way through forests of sugar maple, mountain ash and white birch, keep your eyes open for native black bear, moose, deer and the dozens of species of birds that call this area home. Crossing into Vermont, spot the traditional wooden covered bridges, thick forests and rolling fields of the Green Mountain State. Stop at a historic woolen mill that now houses the Simon Pearce glassblowing workshop. Enjoy a Be My Guest Lunch featuring local ingredients and delicately arranged on Simon Pearce's beautiful stem and flatware. Later, delve into the art and science of glassblowing before continuing to the picturesque village of Ludlow and your mountain retreat. (FB D BD) Hotel: Jackson Gore Inn (F) (2 nights) DAY 6: WOODSTOCK EXCURSION fter a photo stop at Quechee Gorge, visit the Rockefellers’ renowned Billings Farm & Museum, a working dairy farm and farm life museum. Next is the quintessential Vermont village of Woodstock often called “the prettiest small town in America.” There is time to enjoy the romantic charm of this lovely New England village with its covered bridge, quaint streets and stately homes surrounding the village green. Leaving Woodstock, stop in Plymouth to visit President Calvin Coolidge’s childhood homestead and where he was sworn into presidency while vacationing. Return to Ludlow in the late afternoon where the remainder of the day is at leisure. This evening, enjoy dinner at the hotel. (FB) DAY 7: LUDLOW – SPRINGFIELD Cross into western Massachusetts and enjoy the spectacular autumn colours on a scenic journey through the rolling countryside of the Berkshires. Later, stop at the Norman Rockwell Museum to learn more about the area’s most famous artist. View the artist’s personal artifacts, momentos and world-renowned images depicting the surrounding New England community and its residents. Upon arrival in Springfield, enjoy a Farewell Dinner with newfound friends. (FB FD) Hotel: Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel (F) DAY 8: SPRINGFIELD – LEXINGTON – CONCORD – DEPART BOSTON Travel east to see the birthplace of the American Revolution and the “shot heard round the world” as made famous in Ralph Waldo Emerson’s “Concord Hymn.” The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first skirmishes in the American war for independence and these small towns are still rich in history. See the famous statue of the Minute Man, adjacent to Concord’s historic North Bridge. Stop at Lexington Green, which saw the first drops of blood spilled in what George Washington laconically called “the dispute with the British.” Then it’s back to Boston where you are transferred to Boston Logan International Airport or to the tour hotel if you’d like to extend your stay.
