- Holiday Itinerary
DAY 1: UK to Cologne Fly to
Cologne and transfer to the MV Virginia. Cologne’s Gothic
cathedral or ‘Dom’ dominates the left bank of
the Rhine and is Germany’s most visited monument. The
attractive Old Town is packed with magnificent architecture.
(D)
DAY 5: Rüdesheim
to Mainz This
morning we head further south to Mainz, a university town
on the left bank of the Rhine. Explore the city at your leisure,
with its attractions including St. Martin’s Cathedral
with its six spires. Alternatively join our optional excursion
to the charming university city of Heidelberg. (B,L,D)
DAY 2: Cologne to Königswinter This
morning’s sailing takes us to Königswinter, at
the foot of the Drachenfels mountain, one of the Seven Mountains
or ‘Siebengebirge’ on the eastern bank of the
Rhine. Königswinter is a popular holiday resort and offers
a selection of enticing Weinhäuser, where you can sample
the local wines. You can also take the rack railway up to
the Drachenburg Castle, which offers spectacular views of
the river and beyond. (B,L,D)
DAY 6: Mainz to Koblenz We head
northwards to Koblenz, at the confluence of the Rhine and
the Moselle. This 2,000 year old city is the cultural and
business centre of the Middle Rhine region. Attractions include
the Residence Schloss, the Prince Elector’s palace,
the Deutsches Eck and the ancient Ehrenbreitstein fortress.
(B,L,D)
DAY 3: Königswinter to Boppard Enjoy a full day’s
sailing to Boppard, known as ‘The Pearl of The Rhine’,
with its unspoilt promenade that runs the entire length of
the town. (B,L,D)
DAY 7: Koblenz to Cologne This
morning we sail from Koblenz to Cologne. This evening there’s
a farewell dinner on board the ship. (B,L,D)
DAY 4: Boppard to Rüdesheim We continue along the
spectacular Rhine Gorge passing the legendary Loreley rock.
Amidst this romantic scenery is the popular resort of Rüdesheim,
with its quaint old halftimbered houses. The cosy taverns
of the ‘Drosselgasse’ are well worth a visit for
their traditional German entertainment. (B,L,D)
DAY 8: Cologne to UK Transfer
to Cologne airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
Offering a good standard of accommodation
for over a hundred passengers, the Virginia has a well-furnished
dining room and a comfortable promenade deck lounge with a
well-appointed bar and an inviting dance floor. All 53 outward
facing cabins have private facilities, air conditioning/heating,
satellite TV in port and in-house videos while sailing, twin
beds (except singles) and a continental electricity socket
(220V). Whilst on board the Virginia you will receive buffet
breakfast, with hot food available, a three-course lunch and
dinner, plus morning and afternoon tea/coffee.
Prices are based on sharing a two berth cabin on the rear
promenade/main deck (Grade C).
Please note that supplements reflect the deck or cabin position
and not the size of the cabin, except A+ cabins, which are
larger. Grade C cabins may be subject to engine noise (only
daytime sailing!).
Due to steep stairs between decks, the ship is not suitable
for people with walking difficulties (no stair lift).
