Rome &
The Sorrento Peninsula - Holiday Itinerary
DAY 1:
UK to Rome Fly
to Rome and transfer to your hotel on the outskirts of Rome,
Torre Rossa Park (3*). Meet your tour manager and fellow travellers
over dinner this evening. (D)
DAY 4: Pompeii & Vesuvius The ancient city of Pompeii
was engulfed in a cloud of ash and lava when Vesuvius erupted
in AD79. Many of the historical sights have since been uncovered,
and the city is now the finest monument and most complete
record of everyday life in the Roman Empire. Our guided tour
gives a picture of Roman life including mosaics, shops, villas,
theatres, and streets worn away by the chariots of Roman gladiators.
We also visit the mighty Volcano of Vesuvius, its brooding
bulk towering over the Bay of Naples.
(B,D)
DAY 2: Rome A full day
in the Eternal City today as we take an included tour of St
Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, perhaps two
of the most famous Christian sights in the world. The Sistine
Chapel is home to perhaps the most awe-inspiring act of individual
creativity in history, Michelangelo’s frescoes. The
rest of the day is yours to enjoy Rome on your own. Simply
by wandering through the bustling and lively city centre you
will discover that every corner of this beautiful place beholds
a wonder of history or architecture. (B,D)
DAY 5:
Sorrento A free day
for you to relax in Sorrento. Our optional excursion takes
you to Capri, which remains a haven in the Gulf of Naples;
its breathtaking caves, lush vegetation, and the narrow lanes
of its small towns have been attracting visitors for centuries.
This evening we enjoy a Neapolitan Music night. (B,D)
DAY 3: Rome to Sorrento This morning we head for
the Castelli Romani, the country retreat of wealthy Romans
of times gone by. Its towns were mainly founded by popes and
patrician families, possibly the most famous being Castel
Gandolfo and Frascati, home of the crisp white wine. We visit
the village of Castel Gandolfo, home of the Pope’s summer
residence, before continuing to one of Italy’s premier holiday
resorts, Sorrento. Whilst here, you can enjoy the pretty marina,
the relaxed atmosphere and the great shopping.
We stay in Sorrento for four nights at the Hotel
Tirennia or similar (3*). Centrally located and
only 300 metres from the sea, with shops, bars,
restaurants and the quaint harbour within
walking distance. The hotel also has a rooftop
terrace where you can relax and enjoy the sun.
(B,D)
DAY 6: Amalfi Coastal Drive We drive
along the Amalfi Coast, one of Europe’s most beautiful
stretches of coastline, with stunning cliffs dramatically
dropping into a crystal blue sea below, as the road passes
through orchards and gardens, where olives, grapes lemons,
and figs all grow side by side. Onwards to picturesque Ravello,
which sits like a natural balcony overlooking the coast. From
here we travel on to the colourful town of Amalfi before
returning to Sorrento. (B,D)
DAY 7: Sorrento to Rome A leisurely drive back
to our hotel on the outskirts of Rome for the night, Torre
Rossa (3*). (B,D)
DAY 8: Rome to UK We leave today for the
airport and the return flight to the UK. (B)
