Swiss Magic & The Glacier Express - Holiday Itinerary
Day 1: UK to N. France
To Northern France for dinner and an overnight stay. (D)
Day 7: Täsch to Därligen
We descend to Lake Geneva and classy Montreux, where we enjoy time at leisure to browse the shops. An optional journey on the GoldenPass Panoramic train is available as part of our journey to the peaceful village of Därligen on the shores of Lake Thun, where we spend four nights at the Hotel du Lac (3*). Situated only five kilometres from well-known Interlaken, Därligen is a quiet village surrounded by mountain peaks and our hotel enjoys a desirable location right on the lakeside near a boat landing, with its own outdoor swimming pool. (B,D)
Day 2: N. France to Kehl Kork
We travel through Belgium and into Luxembourg, then on to Kehl Kork in Germany for our overnight stay at the Hotel Zum Hirsch (3*). (B,D)
Day 8: Lucerne
An included excursion travelling through the Emmental valley to the popular resort of Lucerne, situated on the lake of the same name. The town itself is a fascinating blend of medieval towers, cobbled squares and glorious lakeside promenades. (B,D)
Day 3: Kehl Kork to Savognin
After breakfast our journey continues through the Black Forest with a stop at the famous Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen and on to Switzerland. We head into the Alps to Savognin near St Moritz for a two night stay at the Hotel Cresta (3*), which is well located in this typical Swiss village. Rooms are well-equipped and the hotel boasts a restaurant, pizzeria, an indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam bath for your relaxation. Savognin is situated in the beautiful Surses Valley, known for its mild climate. (B,D)
Day 9: Därligen
Today we offer a free transfer to nearby Interlaken which is set, as its name implies, between two glittering lakes. The main promenade the ‘Höheweg’ is lined with huge open meadows, shops, tea rooms and attractive cafés. An optional excursion on the Jungfrau railway up to the Jungfraujoch is also available, a truly magnificent journey through spectacular scenery to the ‘Top of Europe’. (B,D)
Day 4: Savognin
Perhaps you’ll treat yourself to a great train ride today - our optional excursion includes a visit to elegant St Moritz and a ride on the Bernina Express. The Bernina Express takes you high into the Alps through wild gorges, across soaring bridges and close to stunning glaciers. (B,D)
Day 10: Därligen
Our included excursion today takes us around the two lakes lying to either side of Interlaken - Lake Thun and Lake Brienz with a visit to the famous village of Brienz, the centre of Swiss woodcarving, with an opportunity to watch skilled craftsmen at work. (B,D)
Day 5: Täsch and The Glacier Express
Certainly a highlight of the holiday today! Our coach will journey on without us as we depart on the famous Glacier Express, probably the world’s slowest ‘express’ train. We travel across the Alps over the Oberalp Pass at 6,700 ft, then down through the Furkha tunnel and through the picturesque hamlets along the upper Rhône valley before reaching the mountain village of Täsch for a two night stay at the Best Western
Alpenhotel (3*). (B,D)
Day 11: Därligen to N. France
Leaving the lakeside behind we travel to the capital city of Berne, with time to explore or take an optional guided city tour around the lovely Old Town. We then continue our journey north through the Champagne region to Northern France for our final night. (B,D)
Dy 6: Täsch
We take the short journey by train to the stylish mountain resort of Zermatt, overlooked by the impressive Matterhorn. This picture book village is beautifully maintained in traditional style and is traffic free with only horse drawn carriages and electric cars permitted. We recommend an optional trip on the Gornergrat cog railway for truly spectacular views.(B,D)
Day 12: N. France to Home
After breakfast we take the ferry from Calais to Dover and then home. (B)
