Telemark
Learn the truth about an the incredible story of Telemark and the allied attempts to halt the production of ‘heavy water’ (a key ingredient for nuclear weapons). Your guide for this tour is Brian Desmond. Brian is ex-military and has lived in Norway for 22 years. Brian has a passion for Norwegian military history and personally knows all of the surviving saboteurs. An experienced guide (with Arctic Warfare training!) you’ll be in good hands.

Heroes of Telemark Tour Itinerary 
DAY 1:
Travel to the port (Newcastle) and board your ferry for the overnight sailing to Norway.
DAY 5: S Hardanger Vidda and Mael (included)
The day starts with some free time in Rjukan for shopping and sightseeing. In the afternoon, we take a cable car to the top of Hardanger vidda and finish the day at Mael. We learn the story of the last operation to destroy Vermork’s stock of heavy water and the sabotaging of the ferry Hydro. Tonight, we have dinner with a specially invited guest who was a former head of
production at Vermork. B,D
DAY 2: Operation Freshmand and Evje (included)
Arrive at Stavanger. We will visit some of the war graves from Operation Freshman. We then travel on to Evje. Our accommodation for tonight is at an ex-Norwegian army camp at Evjemoen which was also the main base for the German army in this part of Norway during WWII. D
DAY 3: Setesdal Valley, Allied War Graves (included)
We’ll have time to visit the local military museum at Evjemoen and some free time to look around Evje. After lunch we travel through the Setesdal valley to Telemark. En route, we visit allied war graves and take in the story of the first shooting down of a Flying Fortress. We arrive at the High Mountain hotel for a three-night stay. B,D
DAY 6: Oslo and The Defence Museum (included)
We travel to Oslo where we will visit the Grini museum and Akershus castle which houses both the Defence and Resistance museums. We check into our hotel in Oslo. B
DAY 7: Kristiansand Battery (included)
Free time for shopping in Oslo before we travel on to Kristiansand and its gun battery installation and museum dating from WWII. We then travel on to Stavanger for the homeward journey. B
DAY 4: Operation Freshman (included)
Today we visit the Operation Freshman landing zone and walk the route that the saboteurs took (7km, undulating terrain). We’ll take a detailed look at the attack route and options, ending with a visit to the heavy water display at the Vermork museum. B,D
DAY 8:
We arrive in Newcastle this morning and continue on the journey home. B

Your Accommodation
You’ll stay for one night at an ex-Norwegian military camp at Evje, originally built by the Germans during WWII, you’ll be accommodated in en-suite rooms which were formally officers’ quarters. Your accommodation in the Telemark area will be at the Skinnarbu High Mountain Hotel, which offers comfortable en-suite rooms and normal hotel facilities. Your overnight hotel in Oslo will be a city-style hotel. All cabins on board ship have en-suite facilities.

Your Ferry
MS Fjord Norway is the largest vessel to serve Norway and offers a high standard of accommodation and facilities. Dining options include the Buffet Restaurant Lehmkuhl, Nautilus Café/Bistro, Prego Italian Restaurant, Chuck’s Steak House and the A La Carte Bergensfjord. The vessel also boasts lounges, a coffee shop, casino, disco and shops. All cabins have en-suite facilities.
