Historic Poland - Tour Itinerary
DAY 1: UK to Krakow
From your preferred UK airport to Krakow where you will be met and taken to the hotel Wyspianski in the city centre (3*), your base for the next two nights. Meet your fellow travellers and Tour Manager over dinner this evening. (D)
DAY 5: Warsaw to Wroclaw
We continue our journey through Polish history as we head southwest to Wroclaw, set on the river Oder. We stay at the hotel Park Plaza (4*) for two nights. (B,D)
DAY 2: Krakow
Included guided city tour to give you a first impression of this wonderful city, the former royal capital of Poland, teeming with ancient buildings and monuments. Absorb the medieval atmosphere within the old city walls; the 'Rynek Glowny' was the largest square of medieval Europe and today it's the focal point of the city, housing the Cloth Hall with the many colourful stalls offering their various products. Here you will also find the
magnificent St. Mary's Church, one of the finest Gothic structures in Poland, as well as a multitude of restaurants, bars and cafes. Explore Wawel Hill and its impressive castle from where Poland's former kings ruled the country. See the castle's State Rooms, Treasury and Armoury, and the neighbouring cathedral where the tombs of some of the kings can be found. South from Wawel Hill is the Kazimierz district, historically home to the Jewish population of Krakow, an area of the city dedicated to restoring the synagogues and ancient buildings to their former glory. (B,D)
DAY 6: Wroclaw
The capital of Lower Silesia is the fourth largest city in Poland and has endured a torrid history of ruin and restoration, reflected in the splendid buildings in and around the old town square. Enjoy our guided city tour to show you the main sights or explore at leisure. We highly recommend a visit to see the 'Panorama of The Battle of Raclawice', a gigantic painting, 120
metres long and 15 metres high, depicting the Polish army defeating the Russians. (B,D)
DAY 3: Krakow to Warsaw
We say goodbye to Krakow and journey north to the capital, Warsaw, to spend the next two nights at the Kyriad Prestige (3*). (B,D)
DAY 7: Wroclaw to Auschwitz to Krakow
A visit to the former concentration camp at Auschwitz with an included guided tour, where we reflect on the poignant memories of war, and the people who lived to tell the tale. Then on to Krakow for our final night at the Wyspianski (3*). (B,D)
DAY 4: Warsaw
Enjoy an included guided sightseeing tour of Warsaw, lovingly rebuilt according to old prints and paintings after the devastation of World War II. The result is an area of warm pastel colours, where surviving pre-war buildings achieve a special poignancy. The beautiful Rynek Starego Miasta (Old Town Square) is closed to all traffic except horses and carriages, and pretty streets full of burghers’ houses, churches and palaces radiate from it. This afternoon will be free for individual exploration of your favourite sights, or maybe just relax in one of the many tempting cafes in and around the old town. (B,D)
DAY 8: Krakow to UK
To Krakow airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
