Budapest,
Prague & Vienna - Tour Itinerary
DAY 1:
UK to Prague From
your preferred UK airport to Prague where you will be met
and taken to your hotel for the next two nights, the Barcelo
(4*). Meet your fellow travellers and Tour Manager over dinner
this evening. (D)
DAY 5: Budapest to Vienna We cross the Austrian border
this morning and head for Vienna. We stay for two nights at
the Ananas (4*). (B,D)
DAY 2: Prague At leisure in Prague with
its skyline dominated by hundreds of towers and spires and
the imposing St. Vitus Cathedral looking down from the hill
of Hradcany over the Charles Bridge, lined with baroque statues.
Prague's Old Town is vibrant with the quaint shops selling
glassware, antique books and lace. The music from nearby street
concert halls added with the aroma from its restaurants help
you to breathe in the atmosphere of tradition. You'll be seeing
some of the main sights on our included guided city tour this
morning, and after that you're free to seek out your favourite
sights and explore at leisure, maybe relax in a quiet café
in and around the old town square with one of the famous Czech
beers. Take a stroll across the Charles Bridge, with the flowing
river Vltava below, and admire the many artists, displaying
and selling their paintings of Prague. (B,D)
DAY 6: Vienna Enjoy our included guided
tour of a city where the sights reflect the true grandeur
of the glorious Hapsburg era. The Opera House and St Stephen’s
Cathedral; the Hofburg, now with several museums, one housing
the crown jewels; and Maria Theresa’s beloved Schönbrunn Palace,
a summer residence where the last Hapsburg abdicated in 1918.
After the city tour you have the opportunity to explore at
leisure. Why not try one or two of the local delicacies, like
Wiener Schnitzel or dumplings, or visit a traditional café
where you will find a convivial atmosphere with a coffee or
two, and the infamous Sachertorte should not be missed. (B,D)
DAY 3: Prague to Budapest We leave
Prague behind as we journey southwards through Moravia and
Slovakia to the capital of Hungary, Budapest, to spend the
next two nights at the Ramada (4*). (B,D)
DAY 7: Vienna to Prague We say 'Auf Wiedersehen'
to Vienna and return to Prague to spend the last night at
the Barcelo (4*). (B,D)
DAY 4: Budapest Included
guided city tour of Budapest, which really is a 'tale of two
cities' as it straddles the Danube: Buda's medieval Castle
Hill is a warren of cobbled streets with postcardperfect views
round every corner. On the more 'modern' Pest side, enjoy
the grand architecture of Parliament building, St Stephens
Basilica and the Opera, or soak up the poignant atmosphere
around Hero's' Square. In the afternoon we can enjoy our included
guided tour of the city which takes in Castle Hill, a plateau
of old mansions and a large palace, much appreciated by the
Hapsburgs in their long struggle against the Turks. At a lower
level you will see the Chain Bridge and Hero's' Square, still
having time at leisure in this fascinating city. (B,D)
DAY 8: Prague to UK Back to Prague airport
for your return flight to the UK. (B)
